December

Well, this is the last of the Calendar Characters.

This was many years ago - must have been, when was the last time we had any amount of snow on Christmas eve?
We did a lot of work for the local authorities, including call outs, for pretty much 365 days of the year.
A tree had leaned over do to the weight of the snow and damaged a leaded light.
It was late on in the evening and a call was put through for our help.
The roads were bad, so it was going to be difficult anyway but the guy on the phone didn't seem to be bothered about that but eventually said leave it - someone has taped some cardboard over the inside.
What a relief, back to the fireside!

When we did get there, the damage - luckily for them, was minimal - a couple of stoppings and that was it. All we would have done on the night, is perhaps little more than what they did - taking them all of 5 minutes to sort.

Anyway, that's it for 2017 - I hope all of you have a great Christmas break and we'll be back in the new year.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
From all at Cavendish Hardware.

November

Another oddball job, back in the very early 80's.

Village Hall, used for all sorts of community activities, including rehearsal for several bands in the village.

Steel framed windows, big gaps where they closed, leaded lights - not in the best of health and when I arrived, there was one of those 80's exercise classes - ghetto blaster, leg warmers, the lot!!
LOUD! Very!

The guy who I met was wearing ear muffs, the sort you wear on a cold day and he clearly didn't want to spend any money on the place, although the locals must have been getting fed up with the noise.
He kept saying "I don't know what all the fuss is about!"

Never got the job and over 30 years later, I drive by the place, now and again - nothing was ever done and they certainly haven't got any better!!
